GFSC Solar Farm Seed Mixes
As solar panels fill the country sides, city landscapes and every where in between. It’s time to decide what kind of landscape do you want to see under those panels. Below are some great mixes to choose from either just wanting grasses or a great show stopping curb appeal. Midwest Solar Farm Pollinator Mix
The Eastern US Solar Farm Pollinator Mix grows to just three feet tall and contains a diverse blend of wildflowers for pollinator conservation. It contains a balanced blend of annuals and perennials that provide nectar and pollen throughout the growing season. Recommended for buffer areas around and between the solar panels. This mixture is less than 36 in height. Black-eyed Susan, Butterfly Milkweed, Corn Poppy, Dwarf Evening Primrose, Dwarf Plains Coreopsis, Golden Alexander, Gray Goldenrod, Hairy Beardstongue, Indian Blanket, Lacy Phacelia, Lance Leaved Coreopsis, Lemon Mint, Ohio Spiderwort, Partridge Pea, Purple Coneflower, Purple Prairie Clover, Scarlet Sage. Seeding Rate: 5-10 pounds per acre |
Basic Solar Farm Seed Mix
This is a basic solar farm mixture that is primary of perennial grasses with just a hint of forbs to give a bit of curb appeal. This mixture will provide low maintenance to any solar farm with very few mowings needed through the growing season.
Perennial Ryegrass, Orchardgrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Meadow Fescue, Alsike Clover, Medium Red Clover, Birdsfoot Trefoil, Blue Chicory, Oxeyed Daisy, Lancedleaf Coreopsis, Partridge Pea and Gray Goldenrod. Seeding Rate: Expect to apply about 40 pounds per acre with a cover crop of annual ryegrass at a seeding rate of 12 pounds per acre. |
Grassy Solar Farm Seed Mix
This solar farm mixture has been developed with the idea of low maintenance grass. It is the simplest solar mixture that we offer with Fescues and Bluegrass, its height will range from 12 – 36 inches.
Creeping Red Fescue, Hard Fescue, Chewing Fescue, Kentucky Bluegrass, and White Clover. Seeding Rate: 6# per 1,000 sq feet or 250 pounds per acre |
Showy Solar Farm Pollinator Mix
This is your top of the line go all out showy solar mix. This mixture will give you a ray of color through all the warm seasons. This mixture will be maintained at 3-4 foot in heigh. Not only is this a showy mix but its an outstanding pollinator mixture as well with just a few native grasses added to it.
Little Bluestem, Sideoats Grama, Partridge Pea, Lanceleaf Coreopsis, Purple Coneflower, Blackeyed Susan, Oxe-eyed Sunflowers, Beardtongue, Butterfly Milkweed, Marsh Blazing Star, Wild Senna, White Avens, Wild Bergamot, Mountain Mint, Golden Alexander, Smooth Blue Aster, New England Aster, Blue False Indigo, Ohio Spiderwort, Sundrops, Gray Goldenrod, ZigZig Aster and Culvert’s Root. Seeding Rate: 15 pounds with 30 pounds of cover crop such as oats. |
